Ms. Joyce Tarot

I am taking on a music challenge where I find songs that match the spirit of each of the 78 cards in the Tarot. For the Seven of Cups, I chose “Illusion” by Dua Lipa.

The Seven of Cups represents being in a confused emotional state. It depicts being fooled by appearances as opposed to seeing through the trappings of outward appearance.

In “Illusion,” the character knows that looks can be deceiving because they have experienced such pitfalls in the past:

I’ve been known to miss a red flag

I’ve been known to put my lover on a pedestal

In the end, those things just don’t last

And it’s time I take my rose-colored glasses off

I already know your type, tellin’ me the things I like (I like)

Tryin’ to make me yours for life, takin’ me for a ride (a ride)

However, something happens on the  dance floor and the character once again gives in to the illusion of love and romance:

Dance all night, dance all night

Dance all night, dance, dance

Illusion, I really like the way you’re movin’

Yeah, I just wanna dance with the illusion
