The Solar Plexus Chakra: How to Balance the Solar Plexus Chakra


The solar plexus chakra is an energy center located in the upper abdomen, above the naval and below the ribs. The solar plexus chakra resonates with the color yellow. The body parts associated with the solar plexus chakra is include the stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, spleen, adrenal glands, and mid spine. Spiritually and emotionally, the solar plexus chakra is related to our ego, personality, self-esteem, and personal identity. This chakra also influences our assertiveness, decisiveness, gut instinct, inner drive. competence, and the desire to succeed.

When energy is flowing through the solar plexus chakra properly, you are assertive, confident, and focused; you have stamina; you have harmonious relationships with other people and your surroundings; you don’t try to overpower others; and you are able to set goals and take the actions needed to achieve those goals.

Life experiences that can lead to an imbalance of the solar plexus chakra include having to make a difficult decision and being afraid of making the wrong choice; growing up in an overly controlling environment where you were not allowed to make your own decisions; being in an abusive relationship; being part of an organization that encourages you to no think for yourself; holding on to negative emotions from a traumatic experience; and holding on to negative belief patterns.

Spiritual and emotional signs that there may be an imbalance of the solar plexus chakra include fear, hate, indifference, feeling stressed, self-loathing, excessive need for control or power, fear of rejection, oversensitivity to criticism, fears of secrets being found out, lack of ambition, indecisiveness, and people pleasing.

Physical signs that there may be an imbalance of the solar plexus chakra include poor digestion, heartburn, stomach ache, ulcers, diabetes or hypoglycemia, arthritis, liver diseases, pancreatitis, anorexia or bulimia, and colon diseases.

There are relatively easy ways to begin to re-balance your solar plexus chakra. But first, understand that you must be aware of your emotional and physical reactions when you feel them in order for these methods to be effective. Be mindful and intentional about your chakra work. Also, make it a point to consistently practice those chakra balancing exercises until you feel a change. Even though you will have to reconcile the core issues that contributed to the imbalance, once you start doing these simple practices, the deeper meaning of your solar plexus chakra blockage will be revealed to you in a way that will make resolving these issues easier. Remember: Chakra balancing is a work in progress.

One way to re-balance your solar plexus chakra is to do stomach crunch exercises. Doing crunches squeezes the stomach and as a result releases energy.  Another way to re-balance your solar plexus chakra is to start each morning by reciting affirmations. Examples of affirmations include I love myself unconditionally, “I can,” “I will,” “I don’t need to be in control of everything,” and “I release myself from negative past experiences.” Create your own affirmations that relate to your particular situation.

If you meditate, sit quietly for a few minutes and simply visualize the color yellow. Also, meditating while holding crystals, carrying crystals in your pocket or purse as you go about your daily activities, and wearing crystal jewelry are also great ways to balance your chakras. The solar plexus chakra resonates with yellow crystals such as citrine, yellow tourmaline gold topaz and tiger’s eye.

The solar plexus chakra is associated with the element of fire. With that in mind, getting some natural sunlight every day can help re-balance this chakra. Also, adding spices such as turmeric, ginger, cumin, and cinnamon to your food heat up the body from the inside.

Eating yellow foods can also help rebalance the solar plexus chakra. These foods include lemons, bananas, corn, pineapple, and butternut squash. Whole grain foods like rice, oats and rye are also beneficial because they help with digestion.

Another thing to do is to incorporate yellow into your day-to-day life. Wear yellow items of clothing, or add yellow items to your home décor such as a furniture, cups, curtains, or even a blanket.

Finally, each chakra vibrates to a specific frequency and resonates with different sounds. Therefore, one way to tap into the sound vibration of the solar plexus chakra is to listen to binaural beats made specifically for that chakra.
