The Throat Chakra: How to Balance the Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is located at the neck above the collarbone. The throat chakra resonates with the color blue. The body parts associated with the throat chakra include the throat, neck, ears, jaw, mouth, teeth, gums, tongue, and thyroid gland.

The throat chakra relates to the way we communicate and, on a deeper level, how we maintain authentic relationships. It is not just about how we express ourselves to others, but also how well we listen to what others have to say. The throat chakra governs sound, creative self-expression, the ability to speak our inner truth with honesty, processing information, and divine guidance.

When energy is flowing through the throat chakra properly, you feel comfortable expressing yourself, you have no problem asking for what you want, you easily and respectfully speak your truth, you are creative, and you are a good listener.

Life experiences that can lead to an imbalance of the throat chakra may date back to childhood and include growing up in a family where you were discouraged from expressing yourself, if your opinions were not valued, and if you faced criticism or ridicule.

Spiritual/emotional signs that there may be an imbalance of the throat chakra include being dishonest, uncommunicative, and shy, social anxiety and feeling disempowered, or on the other hand, aggressively pushing your opinions onto other people.

Physical signs that there may be an imbalance of the throat chakra include addiction, mouth ulcers, swollen glands, thyroid dysfunctions, voice problems, gum or tooth problems, hearing problems, tonsillitis, and ear infections.

There are relatively easy ways to begin to re-balance your throat chakra. But first, understand that you must be aware of your emotional and physical reactions when you feel them in order for these methods to be effective. Be mindful and intentional about your chakra work. Also, make it a point to consistently practice those chakra balancing exercises until you feel a change. Even though you will have to reconcile the core issues that contributed to the imbalance, once you start doing these simple practices, the deeper meaning of your throat blockage will be revealed to you in a way that will make resolving these issues easier. Remember: Chakra balancing is a work in progress.

Singing is a great way to balance the throat chakra. Also, if speaking your truth out loud is hard for you, write your thoughts down in a daily journal or diary as a way to express yourself. Going in the other direction, if you feel called to do so, dedicate a few hours or more to not talking.

If you meditate, sit quietly for a few minutes and simply visualize the color blue. Also, meditating while holding crystals, carrying crystals in your pocket or purse as you go about your daily activities, and wearing crystal jewelry are also great ways to balance your chakras. The throat chakra resonates with blue crystals such as blue kyanite, larimar, tanzanite, azurite, aquamarine, and lapis lazuli.

Eating blueberries, blue grapes, and blackberries can also help rebalance the throat chakra, as well as fruit that grows on trees, including currants, kiwifruit, apples, grapefruit, lemons, pears, plums, peaches, figs, and apricots.

Another thing to do is to incorporate the color blue into your day-to-day life. Wear blue items of clothing, or add blue items to your home décor such as a furniture, cups, curtains, or even a blanket.

Finally, each chakra vibrates to a specific frequency and resonates with different sounds. Therefore, one way to tap into the sound vibration of the throat chakra is to listen to binaural beats made specifically for that chakra.
