New Moon in Virgo — How To Work With The Energies

The first new moon in Virgo this year perfects on August 23, 2025, at 2:06 a.m. eastern. Although this spectacular new moon is too far away by degree from the south node to be considered an eclipse, it indeed marks the beginning of eclipse season. Consider the portal to be open!

To explain further, the full moon in Pisces two weeks from now will be a lunar eclipse. Then, there will be a second new moon in Virgo on September 21, which will be a solar eclipse. Consecutive new moons in the same sign are fairly rare and only happen every two to three years.

New moons are supportive of new beginnings. And with this Virgo new moon, anything you start now has the potential to increase and solidify due to the influence of the Virgo solar eclipse a month from now. You might even have a chance at that time for a do-over!

Remember that the south node, which is in Virgo right now, symbolizes evolving from past experiences. To work with the energies of the Virgo new moon, you could channel your new beginnings toward letting go of situations and mindsets that don’t serve you and replacing them with ones that work better.

Virgo, ruled by Mercury, is analytical; an earth sign, which is practical; and a mutable sign that changes and adapts according to the circumstances. As such, you may want to start new habits and daily routines that improve upon what you are doing currently. These may involve work, health, and scheduling. Virgo is also associated with being of service to others, so you may want to consider volunteering or otherwise contributing to your community.

This is also a great time to balance out difficult Virgo-type traits, such as a tendency to be overly critical of yourself and others and striving for perfectionism. Reciting affirmations on a daily basis is one way to rewire the brain to think more compassionately. Physical activity, such as walking or yoga, can be a way to burn off nervous energy/ anxiety and get more grounded in your body. Routinely spending time in nature may be helpful, as well. Also, think about expressing yourself through words, whether that’s journaling or talking about your thoughts and feelings with people you trust.

Pay attention to what is going on in your life right now, as this moon cycle reflects your eclipse story. Take inspiration from the Hermit card in tarot, which is associated with the zodiac sign of Virgo. Spend some time alone to identify your goals and what you need to do to meet those goals. When you have figured it out, you can then put those thoughts into action.

Note that the Hermit carries a lantern, which symbolizes the wisdom gained from their meditations. By following your own insights, you become a shining light that can inspire and guide others.
