Tarot Card Meditation: The Magician (Black Herman)

Hi, all! Our card for today, Black Herman, is all about being focused and savvy.

Black Herman is associated with the Magician card in the traditional Tarot. The image on the card represents a real person in history who was a famous magician in the early 1900s. To supplement his income, he also sold talismans, tonics, and occult books.

But as Black Herman was entertaining and helping people, he also took the opportunity to talk to people about his political beliefs aimed at helping empower Black people in the face of discrimination.

This is what all magicians do, by the way. even the ordinary ones you see at children’s parties. They distract your attention so that you won’t notice how the trick is done. The technical term is called misdirection (here’s an article about it on Wikipedia. Also, here is a funny and amazing clip of Penn and Teller on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon demonstrating it.

One thing to keep in mind about misdirection is that it doesn’t happen by chance. It takes planning to do it right and to not make it so obvious.

So if you want to get a certain reaction from your words and actions, or if you want to get a certain outcome, you have to put in the work of planning it out. Think about the people you know who appear to have success. They may make it look easy…but perhaps you are not in on how the trick is done, and how much blood, sweat, and tears went into the making of it.

Think about your end goals—what you really want to achieve in any given situation? Are you doing it for the fun of it? Is it just something to pass the time? Are you trying to change your life, change the world, or help others? There’s no right or wrong answer. The important part is that your intentions are clear to yourself, if not to others.

Please know that I am not advocating lying. There’s a way to stay within your morals and integrity without necessarily showing your hand. There may be reasons to be discerning about how much information you give away. Whatever you do, as I often say, do it consciously with a strong sense of self and a specific purpose.

Have a beautiful day. (A version of this post originally appeared on my Patreon page on October 30, 2021).

Tarot Card Meditation: Queen of Wands

Hi, All! I hope you all are well. The Queen of Wands shows is a master at harvesting energy, as the Wands represent fire, passion, and energy. So, this may be a good day to channel any energy you have into creative projects.

What exactly is creativity? My definition of creativity is to turn whatever you do into an expression of how you feel.

How can you express yourself today? If it’s writing or drawing, that’s great. But it could also be dancing. Just turn on some music and move: You don’t have to be a ballet dancer. Simply express how you feel with your body.

Sing along with music that mirrors how you feel today. Or, gather up different flowers and make your own flower arrangement.

You don’t have to limit yourself to expressing only happy emotions. If you need to let out some anger or sadness, find creative ways (that don’t hurt you or others) to express those emotions.

There are as many ways to express yourself as there are people in the world. Find the way that uniquely expresses you.

What is creativity to you? How do you express yourself creatively? Feel free to share in the comments. Have a great day. (A version of this post originally appeared on my Patreon page on June 15, 2019.)

Tarot Card Meditation: Nine of Diamonds

Take it easy and enjoy some down time today. That is what today’s card is suggesting.

This Nine of Diamonds card is from the Illuminated Tarot deck. It corresponds to the Hermit card and Nine of Pentacles in the traditional Tarot. Think about how you can willingly sacrifice the busy work you would normally do and practice self care instead.

Self care varies from person to person. For some, it’s sitting down with a good book, taking a long hot bath, going for a walk, or taking a nap. If you can, carve out time for yourself, even if it’s only a few minutes to an hour. You work hard and you deserve to do what your want to do once in a while.

This reminds me of the song Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae.

Have a beautiful day. (A version of this post originally appeared on my Patreon page on October 25, 2020.)

Tarot Card Meditation: Ten of Pentacles

The Ten of Pentacles is a card about stability and fulfillment in the household. This is usually thought to mean financial stability and material comfort.

However, many times this card is thought to carry with it a bit of a warning. As you can see in the After Tarot card, the man and woman of the household are walking away from the family coffers with a sense of satisfaction. But the child holding the pentacle (coin) doesn’t seem to understand the importance of the money. Nor does the dog. Their thinking is more innocent.

The point is that it is wonderful to have creature comforts and to be in a stable home situation. But don’t forget why you worked so hard for these things. It is not the things themselves but how they make you feel.

Taking it a step further, having a stable home life, especially if you have a family, is about being together in a safe environment. If you are comfortable, don’t forget about the togetherness part of the equation. If you live alone, it is about having that connection with yourself and a sense of self worth, as well as having money.

Have an awesome day.

Tarot Card Meditation: Seven of Swords

The Seven of Swords is telling us to pay attention to our BS detectors! Don’t let anything or anyone steal your joy!

That’s right. Listen to your gut instincts and weigh the situation out with your logic. If something doesn’t  seem right, observe things very closely. There may be nothing to be concerned about—but it doesn’t hurt to be cautious. If you think you are being lied to, gather your evidence before trying to catch the culprit.

Keep in mind that while this advice could apply to your dealings with other people, it could also apply to the self-limiting lies you tell yourself about not being good enough. Take a deeper look. Objectively speaking, what are you doing in life right now and what have you already accomplished? The truth revealed could be that you are more wonderful than you thought you were.

Have a great day.
